Qatar Detains Iranian Fishermen for 2nd Time in 2 Weeks

An Iranian official says the Qatari coast guards have arrested three fishermen from the Iranian province of Hormuzgan in the second such incident in almost two weeks.

Mohammad Radmehr, the governor of Parsian town in Hormuzgan province, said two fishing boats departed the town on Monday for catching fish, but lost each other and unintentionally sailed out of the Iranian territorial waters.

According to a Farsi report by the Mehr News Agency, one of the fishing boats with three sailors on board, named Abdolmajid Rahmani, Mohammad Amin Bahri, and Aqil Irannejad, was seized by Qatar’s coast guards after they trespassed the Arab country’s waters, he added.

“The IRGC Navy and all relevant authorities are pursuing their release through legal measures,” Radmehr went on to say.

This is the second such incident in over two weeks. Earlier on July 19, three other Iranian fishermen were detained by Qatari coast guards in the Persian Gulf.

The detained people, from Assaluyeh port of Iran’s southern Bushehr province, were busy fishing in a boat near the oil rigs of Qatar, the Chief of Fishery Organization of Assaluyeh port, Abdolhossein Bahreini, said at the time.

The Iranian boat did not receive the required licence for fishing, and since it did not observe the marine border regulations, it was stopped and its crew were detained, Bahreini said.
