The renovation of Naghsh-e Jahan Stadium in Iran’s Isfahan was finally finished and the long-awaited opening ceremony was held for the country’s second largest football venue.
According to a report by ILNA, as translated by IFP, in a ceremony attended by First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and Sports Minister Massoud Soltanifar, the modern Iranian football stadium Naghsh-e Jahan was inaugurated in Isfahan.
Naghsh-e Jahan Stadium has a capacity of 75,000 and is considered the second largest stadium in Iran after Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
The construction of the original stadium had been started in 1993, and the first phase was inaugurated in 2003. The stadium was in service for nearly five years when it was shut down for renovation and expansion.
The renovation process took near a decade, and finally it was inaugurated today.
People of Isfahan will no longer have to travel dozens of kilometres away from the city to watch the matches of their favourite football team Sepahan FC, which plays its home games in Naghsh-e Jahan.
