Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman made it clear that Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah’s Wednesday visit to Iran is part of regular diplomatic meetings between the two neighbors, which have been in close contact for a long time.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said the one-day visit to Tehran by the senior Kuwaiti diplomat had been already planned and arrangements had been made for it.
As two age-old neighbors that have a lot in common, Iran and Kuwait have always had interaction and consultations in the past, he noted.
According to Qassemi, the visiting minister will have a message from Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
In his meetings in Tehran, the Kuwaiti foreign minister will also discuss bilateral relations, as well as the latest regional and international developments, the spokesman added.
His comments came after media speculation that Kuwait is going to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia, whose relations have soured since 2015.
Iran and Kuwait have developed closer political relations in recent years, and have held several sessions of a Joint Political Committee.
