Kuwait Has Yet to Relay GCC’s Message to Iran

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman says Kuwait has not delivered any specific message on part of the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council ([P]GCC) to the Islamic Republic yet.

Speaking to ISNA on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi made the comment in response to some reports quoting Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid Sulaiman al-Jarallah as saying that his country would relay a message to Iran.

“Iran has not received any official or specific message from Kuwaiti officials in this regard yet,” Qassemi said.

He added that Kuwaiti officials have not yet submitted any specific proposal or date through diplomatic and official channels for conveying the [P]GCC message.

“Immediately upon receiving any proposal, the Islamic Republic of Iran would examine this issue and make a decision about it,” the Iranian spokesperson said.

In a statement on Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday, al-Jarallah said contacts were underway “with the Iranian brothers to set a proper date to deliver that message.”

He, however, stopped short of elaborating on the contents of the message.

Following the 37th annual summit of the [P]GCC, comprising Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain, in the Bahraini capital of Manama in December, al-Jarallah declared that Kuwait had conveyed a message to Iran “expressing the GCC states’ view regarding dialogue” with the Islamic Republic.
