Iran’s Zarif Warns US against JCPOA Violation

The enforcement of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is an obligation and all countries involved in the agreement have made a pledge to implement it, Zarif told IRIB on Sunday.

“We are also pursuing its implementation with seriousness,” he added.

He further raised the alarm about any violation of the deal by the US and noted that American officials are “making a mistake” because the Iranian nation’s distrust of US is growing day by day as a result of Washington’s lack of commitment to the deal.

Iran has foreseen different measures under the guidelines of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei to avoid any potential loss in reaction to the breach of the JCPOA, a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), by the opposite side, Zarif added.

Referring to the upcoming US presidential elections, the top Iranian official said, “It is election year for the Americans and they are more inclined to choose a method that will serve their interests in the election.”

Back in June, Ayatollah Khamenei underlined Iran’s commitment to the deal with the group of six countries, but made it clear that any violation of the deal by the US will trigger Tehran’s harsher response.

The Leader reiterated that Iran will never be the first side to violate the JCPOA.

“But” the Leader underscored “if the threats of tearing off the JCPOA made by the US presidential nominees are carried out, the Islamic Republic will set the JCPAO ablaze,” Ayatollah Khamenei added, making a reference to a divine order about mutual breach of commitments.

The Leader then explicated the pluses and minuses of the nuclear deal, noting that, however, the bulk of the advantages that had encouraged Iran to negotiate “have not been met” yet.
