Iran’s Fibre Optic Space to Expand to 1mn sqm: VP

A senior Iranian official says the country’s fibre optic space will reach one million square metres by the next year.

Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari said the move could help expedite the activities of companies.

“Currently, more than 500,000 square metres of fiber optic space are up and running at universities, and the space is planned to increase to one million square metres where many start-ups, knowledge-based firms and accelerators can work,” he said.

He also touched upon hybrid and electric vehicles.

“We have entered that domain with some start-ups, and if we can get into it on time, we will be able to have added value,” said the vice president.

“The necessary investments have been made in sub-branches such as the production of batteries and electronic systems,” he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sattari referred to a plan to foster top talents and innovative individuals who, as he added, will receive the necessary training with regards to entrepreneurship and key social issues.

“[This way,] they can be role models for universities,” he said.
