Amir Aliakbari from Iran lost to Mirko Filipović from Croatia in the Rizin World Grand Prix on Saturday.
Filipović finished Aliakbari by first-round knockout at Saitama Super Arena.
Aliakbari defeated Brazilian João Almeida in the first round.
He beat Heath Herring from USA in second round and defeated Russian Valentin Moldavsky in semi-final.
Aliakbari came in as a top prospect, just about two years into his MMA career after starring as a Greco-Roman wrestler. He won the Greco world championship twice, but one was removed due to a failed drug test.
The year 2016 was the 2nd year in the history of the Rizin Fighting Federation, a mixed martial arts promotion based in Japan.
