Iranian First VP’s Turkey Visit Postponed Due to Busy Schedule

Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri’s visit to Turkey was postponed because of his tight schedule, the country’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi announced on Sunday.

Earlier media reports said that the Iranian vice president was scheduled to travel to Ankara Monday. Jahangiri was to meet Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim for talks on a range of issues, including the crisis in Syria.

Qassemi said that the Turkish authorities have been informed about the development, adding that the visit was postponed to a proper time in the future.

On Friday, Jahangiri and Turkish Prime Minister Yildirim had exchanged views about various issues, ranging from Tehran-Ankara relations to the latest developments in the Middle East region, particularly in Syria.

In a telephone conversation, Jahangiri offered his condolences to the Turkish people and government over victims in a recent terrorist attack in Istanbul that led to the killing and injuring of dozens of people.

“Peace, stability and security of Turkey is highly important to the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said, calling for closer cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Jahangiri further pointed to the appalling conditions of Syrian civilians in various cities, including Aleppo, and said unfortunately, civilians are being killed and injured in various cities of the Arab country.
