Hossein Jaberi Ansari, a special assistant to Iran’s foreign minister, has held talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during his visit to Damascus on Monday.
At the meeting, the two sides talked about the latest developments in Syria, including the formation of the country’s constitutional committee.
Jaberi Ansari and President Assad discussed the efforts made in the fight against terrorism, as well as the progress made in the process of settling the crisis through political means.
They highlighted that the US government and supporters of terrorism are struggling in both directions to make up for the defeats they had suffered on the political scene during the years of the Syrian war.
Iran is engaged in high-level political talks with Russia and Turkey in order to settle the crisis in Syria through the so-called Astana Process.
Jaberi Ansari, who is Iran’s top negotiator in the peace talks, attended an October tripartite meeting with representatives of Russia and Turkey in Moscow, and discussed ways to end the devastating war in the Arab country.
During those talks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called the Astana Talks the most appropriate framework for the full resolution of the Syrian crisis announcing that a new meeting between the presidents of the three countries will be held soon.
