Iranian athletes snatched two gold medals and one silver on Monday at several categories at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Japan’s Tokyo.
Iranian jumper Amir Khosravani grabbed a gold medal in the men’s long jump at Paralympic Games, winning the first place with a jump of 7.21 meters.
In men’s shot put F11, blind athlete Mehdi Olad catched a gold medal with a throw of 14.43 meters.
Iranian powerlifter Mansour Pourmirzaei managed to earn Iran’s fifth medal in powerlifting at the Paralympic Games, claiming a silver medal at the men’s +107kg.
He dedicated his medal to Siamand Rahman, an Iranian Paralympic powerlifter, who had won two gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games, and passed away at the age of 32 in March 2020.
Earlier, powerlifter Rouhollah Rostami had won a gold medal in the -80kg. Amir Jafari (-65kg) and Hamed Solhipour (-97kg) had grasped two silver medals and Saman Razi seized a bronze in the -107kg weight class.
Iranian judo athlete Vahid Nouri stood atop in men’s minus 90-kilogram weight class on Sunday.
Later in the day, Iranian judoka Mohammad Reza Kheirollahzadeh won a gold medal in the men’s over 100-kiloghram category after defeating Georgia’s Revaz Chikoidze.
With 11 medals, including five golds, Iran stood at 12th place in the medal tally of the 2020 Paralympics Games.
China leads the standings with 119 medals, including 54 golds. Britain is in the second slot with 68 medals, including 26 golds, and Russia ranks third with 61 medals, including 19 golds.
