Iran Says to Counter Any Disruption of Cooperation with IAEA

Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says the country will respond to any move aimed at sabotaging Tehran’s cooperation with the agency.

Kazem Gharibabadi also dismissed any attempt to pressure the IAEA over its cooperation with Iran.

“Any effort to disrupt and divert constructive and active cooperation between Iran and the agency and to exert unwarranted pressure on the agency are completely destructive and will be followed by Iran’s due measures,” said Gharibabadi.

He further said Washington has no jurisdiction over the IAEA as it does not belong to the US government.

“The agency is not a US-affiliated institution, so that [US National Security Advisor John] Bolton cannot set an agenda for the visits and trips by its officials,” he said.

The official noted that the trip to Iran by IAEA Acting Director General Cornel Feruta was within the framework of usual interactions and cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.

He rejected any claims of covert nuclear activities by Iran, adding, “There was no specific agenda for this visit as Bolton wished.”

“Naturally, during this visit, the two sides discussed cooperation in the fields of verification, the Additional Protocol and the comprehensive Safeguards Agreement,” he said.
