Iran Ranks 6th in Nanotechnology Worldwide: Minister

Iran’s minister of science, research, and technology says the Islamic Republic holds the sixth position in the latest world ranking for nano-technology.

Mansour Gholami said Iran also ranks eighth in the field of bio-technology.

In a meeting with Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi in the holy city of Qom, Gholami also noted that Iran has achieved the total science rank of 16 in the world.

Nanoscience and nanotechnology are the study and application of extremely small things and can be used across all the other science fields, such as chemistry, biology, physics, materials science, and engineering.

Nano-technology is hailed as having the potential to increase the efficiency of energy consumption, help clean the environment, and solve major health problems.

It is said to be able to massively increase manufacturing production at significantly reduced costs. Nano-tech advocates claim that products of nanotechnology will be smaller, cheaper, lighter yet more functional and require less energy and fewer raw materials to manufacture.
