Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the United Nations special envoy to Iraq, Jan Kubis, exchanged views about a range of issues, including Baghdad’s latest efforts to combat terrorist groups in the Arab country.
In the meeting held in the US city of New York on Tuesday, the two diplomats held talks on the current conditions in Iraq and hailed recent victories over Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group.
Zarif and Kubis also stressed the need to protect Iraq’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity and make efforts to boost the country’s stability.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Zarif is in New York to attend the UN high-level political forum on sustainable development.
The meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2017, convened under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council, started in New York on Monday, July 10, and will run until Wednesday, July 19.
The theme of the event is eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world, according to the website of the forum.
