Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer have sat for talks in Tehran.
During the Sunday meeting, Maurer expressed the ICRC’s willingness to continue its talks and cooperation with the Islamic Republic on the most important humanitarian problems in the region.
He also briefed the Iranian foreign minister on the humanitarian crises in some countries like Syria, Yemen and Iraq.
For his part, Zarif said the Islamic Republic of Iran does whatever in its power to relieve the sufferings of the war-stricken nations of Yemen and Syria and send humanitarian aid to them.
The two sides also exchanged views on the latest humanitarian developments in Syria and the urgent need for evacuation of civilians from battlefields in Eastern Ghouta.
The necessity of declaring an immediate truce in Yemen as well as sending humanitarian and medical aid to the Yemenis was also discussed during the meeting.
