Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said 20,000 of his forces have been stationed in the Makran region located in southeast of the country, along the coasts of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
The Iranian Navy as a pioneer of the development of the Makran coasts has deployed 20,000 of its forces to the region, Rear Admiral Sayyari said in a speech at a gathering of managers of naval organizations on Sunday.
He added that the deployment of the Navy’s forces and efforts to provide grounds for public services in Makran coasts have helped develop the region.
The strategic Makran region has attracted the attention of many Iranian decision-makers and military officials, particularly after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need for the development of the region.
In November 2014, in a meeting with high-ranking Navy commanders, Ayatollah Khamenei said the issue of development of the coasts of Makran is a major task and plans for that region should be carried out more rapidly.
