Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has felicitated Nicaragua on the anniversary of Independence Day, which is annually celebrated on September 15.
Rouhani offered his congratulations to the Nicaraguan nation and government in a message to his counterpart Daniel Ortega Saavedra.
“I would like to offer my sincerest congratulations to Your Excellency and the people of your country on the Independence Day of the Republic of Nicaragua,” he said in the letter.
He also expressed satisfaction over the recent “serious steps” taken by Tehran and Managua in promoting cooperation, and stressed the determination of the Iranian government and nation for development of friendly bonds and economic cooperation.
The Iranian president finally wished health and success for his counterpart and prosperity and felicity for the people of the Republic of Nicaragua.
The Captaincy General of Guatemala was dissolved in September 1821 with the Act of Independence of Central America, and Nicaragua soon became part of the First Mexican Empire.
After the monarchy of the First Mexican Empire was overthrown in 1823, Nicaragua joined the newly formed United Provinces of Central America, which was later renamed as the Federal Republic of Central America.
Nicaragua finally became an independent republic in 1838.
