Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday night resigned from his position, sources close to the foreign ministry confirmed to IFP.
Zarif in a post in his Instagram account thanked the Iranian nation for 67 months of support, and said he is unable to continue serving as the country’s foreign minister.
Two foreign ministry officials confirmed to the Iran Front Page that Zarif has officially resigned.
It is not yet clear why he has offered his resignation and whether it would be accepted by President Hassan Rouhani.
