Security forces in Iran have arrested a footballer for “insulting government officials over the protests in the Islamic Republic and affronting the national Iranian football team.”
According to Tasnim News Agency, authorities accuse Vooria Ghafouri, Foulad Khuzestan midfielder, of “insulting the National Football Team (Team Melli) of Iran and waging propaganda against the establishment.”
Ghafouri was a former captain of the Tehran club Esteghlal, before joining Foulad.
