Turkey extends contract to import Iran oil: Official

Tehran and Ankara have renewed a bilateral agreement on the export of Iran’s oil to Turkey, an Iranian energy official says.

Mohsen Qamsari, the director for international affairs at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), on Friday pointed to the daily export of 100,000 to 110,000 barrels of Iranian crude to Turkey, saying “The Turks have extended the oil contract with Iran.”

The energy official pointed out that the volume of Iran’s oil exports to Turkey has remained unchanged.

According to media reports, Turkey imported 478,000 tons of Iranian oil in March, making Iran its biggest crude exporter. During the period, Iraq and Nigeria were Turkey’s other key crude providers.

In February, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz stressed that his country will continue to import oil and natural gas from Iran.

Turkey has also expressed willingness to double natural gas imports from Iran if the two countries can agree on a price.

Turkey uses a significant portion of imported Iranian gas to generate electricity.
