Rice harvest in Iran’s Lorestan Province despite drop in rainfall

The rice harvest season has started in the western Iranian province of Lorestan despite a drop in precipitation this year.

Each year, some 6 thousand hectares of land come under rice cultivation in Lorestan Province.

However, rice-growers have faced water shortages in the current year due to a considerable decline in subterranean water resources as well as in surface runoff.

Still, farmers are reaping the harvest in some areas across the province.

Rice seedlings are planted in late spring, and crops are harvested in late summer or early fall in the region.
