On Saturday morning and just two days before the beginning of spring, Larijani congratulated his counterparts in Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Turkey, and Uzbekistan on the ancient and globally renowned event of Nowruz (also known as Norooz).
Expressing best wishes for those nations, Larijani underlined that dealing with the regional challenges and combatting threats hinges on “constructive cooperation and interaction among all countries, particularly the neighbors.”
He also emphasized the significance of parliamentary negotiations in establishing sustainable security and closer ties, noting, “The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes any regional cooperation, particularly with the neighbors, on the basis of mutual respect, to contribute to security, progress and all-out economic, political and cultural development.”
In 2010, the UN General Assembly established March 21 as the International Day of Nowruz. The UN also celebrates the International Day of Happiness.
The international Nowruz Day was proclaimed at the initiative of several countries that share this holiday, including Iran, Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
