Sareh Javanmardi claimed a gold medal at the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 event at the Paralympic Games on Friday.
Javanmardi made history by becoming Iran’s first ever female gold medallist in shooting para-sport event.
The current world record holder finished the competition with a score of 193.4 points which was a Paralympic final record.
Javanmardi claimed her second Paralympics medal after her only previous appearance, at London 2012, saw her finish with a bronze.
The silver medal in final was won by Olga Kovalchuk of Ukraine with a score of 191.2 points.
Turkey’s Aysegul Pehlivanlar finished in third and took the bronze medal as she finished some way off of the top two on 172.3 points.
