Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Tuesday, Major General Jafari condemned the killings of dozens of the “oppressed people” of Palestine on Monday and said, “The world is full of oppression by the occupying Zionist regime and the United States.”
He further deplored the inaction of some regional countries on the massacre of Palestinians and said “the treacherous states” that are self-proclaimed advocates of Islam are complicit in the oppression against the oppressed people of the region, including the Palestinians.
The Gaza Health Ministry said nearly 60 Palestinian were killed and more than 2,700 others injured Monday, including 1,360 by live fire. Of the wounded, 130 are in serious or critical condition.
It was the deadliest day in Gaza since a 2014 cross-border war.
On Monday, tens of thousands of Palestinians rallied near Israel’s border fence to protest a blockade of their territory and the move of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds (Jerusalem) that day.
The UN Security Council is set to meet Tuesday to discuss the mass killings of Palestinians by Israeli forces near the Gaza border.
