Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani said the Asian countries at a meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Turkey have acknowledged Iran’s role in ensuring regional security.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Tehran after taking part in the 12th Plenary Meeting of APA in Antalya, Larijani said the assembly is constantly developing, given Asia’s role and future.
“Asian countries believe that sustainable security in the region depends on cooperation with Iran,” the speaker added.
He also noted that one of the main issues mooted in the APA meeting was the growing need for multilateralism in the contemporary world.
“The main subject of the conference was convergence among the Asian countries,” Larijani said, adding, “The (APA) member states disagree about the US move to ignore Iran, and assert in various forms that they must have close security and economic relations with Iran.”
Heading a parliamentary delegation, Larijani visited Turkey’s Antalya for the 12th APA Plenary.
The assembly has been created as a forum to exchange views, ideas and experiences for developing common strategies and promoting peace in Asia and the world.
The APA is comprised of the Plenary, the Executive Council, Bureau of the Assembly, the Committees, and the Secretariat.
