Iran Strongly Denounces Deadly Terrorist Attacks in Iraq

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi strongly condemned today’s terrorist attacks in the Iraqi town of Musayyib, south of Baghdad, and the holy city of Karbala, in which dozens of “innocent people” were killed and injured.

In a statement on Friday, Qassemi offered his condolences to the Iraqi nation and government as well as the bereaved families of the victims of the deadly terror attacks in the neighboring country.

“Heavy and successive defeats of Takfiri terrorists in Iraq and Syria have caused their intellectual and organizational failure,” he noted.

In a desperate attempt to rebuild the spirit of their mercenaries in Syria and Iraq, the terrorists are resorting to blind attacks across the region and the world, the Iranian spokesman said, adding that however, their collapse and destruction is inevitable.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, as always, is resolved to side with regional nations and governments in the relentless fight against violence until the complete destruction of terrorism,” Qassemi stated.

A suicide bomber blew himself up in a market in the town of Musayyib on Friday killing at least 30 people.

A woman detonated her explosive belt in a market east of the Shiite holy city of Karbala on Friday, killing at least 30 and wounding 35, Iraqi security sources said.

The attack in Musayyib came hours after another, apparently failed attack in the Shiite shrine city of Karbala, a few kilometers (a couple of miles) to the southwest.

Four civilians were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of the city’s main bus station early Friday, police sources said.

Both attacks were claimed by the Daesh (also known as ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group through its propaganda agency Amaq.

ISIL has carried out dozens of deadly suicide bombings targeting civilians but Iraq has been on heightened alert since the start of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
