Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi says the Islamic Republic is prepared to hold talks and settle its disputes with all regional states, including the United Arab Emirates.
Mousavi made the remarks in a Monday press briefing in Tehran, in reaction to the UAE’s plan to join a US-led coalition in the Persian Gulf.
“Countries make their decisions based on their own interests. We are prepared to hold dialogue with every single country in the region, especially the UAE, either multilaterally or individually, to clear misunderstandings,” he said.
“From our side, all countries have been given the assurance that Iran seeks peace, security, stability, and development in other states,” Mousavi noted.
“This will not be achieved by purchasing security from other countries, but through regional cooperation,” he added.
Mousavi expressed the hope that the UAE and other regional states would also arrive at the same conclusion as soon as possible.
The United Arab Emirates announced earlier this month that it will join the so-called international maritime safety coalition led by the US in the Persian Gulf.
The US claims the maritime coalition aims to protect merchant ships to ensure freedom of navigation and international trade. It is to cover the Strait of Hormuz, Bab al-Mandab, the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf.
The UAE says the alliance also aims to protect commercial vessels by providing safe sailing and ensure freedom of navigation as well as global trade.
