Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi received the credentials of the Saudi ambassador in Tehran Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi earlier on Tuesday and expressed hope that the two regional powerhouses will witness a boost in bilateral ties.
President Raisi said Iran and the Saudi kingdom need to make diplomatic efforts to use the potentials in order to strengthen mutually beneficial relations and ensure the interests of the regional nations and the Islamic world.
The Iranian president also touched on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip where over 2.3 million Palestinians have been under the heaviest Israeli assault since 2006.
“In the recent unprecedented crimes by the Zionist regime and its Western supporters in Gaza, a unified stance from the Islamic world could have prevented the oppression and aggression by the Zionist regime and the excessive demands by its Western supporters in a more effective way,” he noted.
Meanwhile, al-Anzi conveyed “warm greetings from the Saudi king on this historical day”, and said, “The relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia are very firm, because the bonds and commonalities between the two nations and countries are more than their differences.”
The Saudi envoy expressed gratitude to Iran for helping the kingdom in many fields and on many issues, and sounded upbeat that the cooperation between the two countries will improve.
Iran and Saudi Arabia restored ties and reopened embassies in March after a seven-year hiatus due to differences over several issues, including the war on Yemen.
