The dome of Imam Reza’s shrine, the eighth Shia imam, in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad has been rinsed on the eve of a major Muslim festivity, Eid al-Ghadir.
The Eid marks Prophet Muhammad’s final sermon at Ghadir Khumm between the Saudi cities of Mecca and Medina almost 1400 years ago during which the holy prophet appointed Imam Ali as his successor.
The event falls on Tuesday, June 25, this year.
