The Friday prayers leader of the city of Kazeroun in the southern Iranian province of Fars died in an assassination on Friday.
Mohammad Sabahi was shot after leading the Friday prayers at noon for unspecific reasons.
He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way to the medical center.
The assailant committed suicide after the shooting.
The Governor of Kazeroun, Mohammad Ali Bekhrad, confirmed the assassination, saying “there is a possibility of personal hostility in this incident.”
The governor added an investigation has been launched into the case.
