The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Tuesday, June 28, that it had received a request from the Arab Group to include Israel’s nuclear capabilities on the agenda of IAEA’s annual conference, due in late September.
The Arab Group’s request lists the reasons that made the group submit its demand, according to a well-informed source at the IAEA, who asked not to be named, in speaking to KUNA, as covered by IRNA. He did not say what the reasons were or whether he had read the request or not.
The Arab Group submit a similar request every year, calling for Israel’s nuclear capabilities to be placed under the IAEA’s guarantee protocols. The Arab Group has also been calling on Israel to join the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Israel claims it is still in a state of war with various Arab countries and is waiting for peace in order to consider joining the NPT.
