An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale has jolted Sarjangal area near Zahedan, provincial capital of Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan.
The director general of the crisis control department of Sistan and Balouchestan said the quake happened at 12:06 on Monday.
The tremor took place at a depth of 16 kilometers. There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
But several teams have been dispatched by the crisis control department to the site of the earthquake.
Iran is a quake-prone country and is criss-crossed by many fault-lines.
